Ned Botwood is a British director and photographer. His work is warm and affectionate, characterised by honest conversation, sweeping landscapes and lush colour.

In 2021, he directed ‘Happy Pride, from the Middle of Nowhere’ for British Vogue, a documentary taking on the misconception that queer people don’t belong in rural places. He cast the film word-of-mouth, then travelled across the Midlands in a van, meeting seven people living on the rural fringes of the UK.

The film was nominated for a 1.4 Award, as well as Best Low Budget Film at Ciclope 2021. It made Pick of the Day on David Reviews, who wrote: ‘This is thoughtful, stereotype-busting work… a love letter both to nature and to those embracing their nature.’

Following this film, he shot ‘First Acts’ for British Vogue x Tiffany, a nostalgic interview with seven female A-Listers about their first steps into the industry. It was nominated for a Craft Award at the British Arrows.

More recently, he’s directed music videos for Junodream, Henry Moodie, Metronomy and Katy J. Pearson.

Ned lives in London. He wrote this bio in the third person to sound a big deal. He has a vivid childhood memory of an empty pair of jeans running across a lawn. He’s not positive this actually happened, but he hopes it did.
